Manioc
From the small tree called Manyoc or Mandioque, the fruitful root was traditionally used to make a kind of bread called “Cassava” (De Rochefort, 1658), thus it was also called Cassava-tree.
Today on St. Martin, the root can be named manioc (Creole) or cassava (English) and tasty “cassava-bread” is still prepared.
