MARTIN, A Good Strong Name!
(Saint) Martin of Tours’ father was a military tribune* of the Roman Empire.
It is probably not a coincidence that the name Martin, derived from the Latin Martinus means “devoted to Mars”, Mars being the god of war in Rome.
*Tribune (Latin: Tribunus) was the title of various elected officials in ancient Rome. The two most important were the tribunes of the plebs and the military tribunes.
