Emilio’s Plantation: Home of Philips
Emilio’s Plantation, located in the Dutch Cul-de-Sac, is famously associated with Commander John Philips, the Dutch officer who played a key role in the development of St. Maarten.
Philips, who is also the namesake of Philipsburg, established this estate in the early 18th century. The plantation house, built in a traditional Dutch style, served as his residence and headquarters.
Emilio’s remains one of the most well-preserved plantations on the island, with the main house and several outbuildings still intact. Today, Emilio’s has been restored and repurposed as a popular restaurant and event space, blending its rich history with modern uses.
