Union Farm: Preserved Plantation House
Union Farm, located in the Dutch Quarter, is one of St. Maarten’s best-preserved 17th-century plantation houses. Built during the early colonial period around 1680 and subsequently renovated in 1924, this estate played a key role in the island’s agricultural development, particularly in the cultivation of sugarcane.
The plantation house, with its traditional Dutch Caribbean architecture, remains largely intact, offering a rare glimpse into the living conditions of plantation owners during that era.
Union Farm is not only significant for its historical architecture but also for its role in the island’s agricultural history, representing the wealth and power that sugar production once brought to St. Maarten.
