Hummingbirds; The Purple-throated Carib (Eulampis jugularis)
Measuring between 11 to 12 cm (4.3 to 4.7 in) long, this little guy is in fact the largest hummingbird in the Caribbean!
Depending on lighting conditions, the bird can appear entirely black but its shimmering green wings are usually still visible. Those green wings along with a more strongly curved bill, help differentiate it from the Green-throated Carib.
Generally sedentary, this species lives in the interior and edges of forests, preferably at heights between 800 and 1,200 m (2,600 and 3,900 ft), but it can occasionally be spotted anywhere on the island.
