A Mysterious House On 10, Rue de La République!
This abandoned mansion seems to breathe history through its walls still from which emanates an aura of mystery as its tale remains untold.
Located at #10 rue de la République in Marigot, this “old house” was built in the Traditional Colonial Style, characterized by a stone ground floor and a wooden top floor with a facade decorated with friezes and pelmets commonly called “gingerbreads”.
In 2016, the Collectivity of Saint-Martin carried out a scientific census of the built heritage on the territory into which it was integrated. This traditional mansion was therefore regarded as a valuable attribute to the historical and cultural heritage of St. Martin.
Following cyclone IRMA in 2017, the house, already abandoned to a natural ruin, suffered even more damage. Nevertheless it seems to defy time, testifying of the technical and architectural prowess available on the island in the past and acting as a symbol of resilience at the heart of Marigot.
Despite its dilapidated state, this impressive building remains of remarkable architectural beauty and stands out from others, newer or restored, nearby.
