Note These iconic Elements of Creole Architecture in the Colonial Style
The ground floors have strong foundations made out of stone walls mortared with lime, while the second floors are typically made of wood. The buildings have street facing patios and a balcony per floor. The top of which are decorated with carved wooden friezes called “gingerbreads” or “gingerbread trims” which lets cool air pass, and the railings are finely crafted. Windows have solid wood shutters for protection against heavy weather.
