Meet the Caribbean Spiny Lobster!

Since all four stocks of Caribbean Spiny Lobsters are found in American Caribbean waters, this species is sustainably managed under U.S regulations and likely to be the type of lobster most found on St. Martin.

Caribbean spiny lobsters get their name from forward-pointing spines that cover their bodies to help protect them from predators.

They spawn throughout the year in the Caribbean and are not subject to overfishing (2020 stock assessment by NOAA Fisheries).
