Frontstreet 57: Wathey Square
Frontstreet 57 is a prominent building located near Wathey Square, a central gathering place in Philipsburg. The building currently houses a popular jewelry store, but its historical significance extends beyond its modern use.
The structure is a well-preserved example of traditional Philipsburg architecture, featuring a wooden facade, large windows, and a gabled roof.
Wathey Square, adjacent to the building, is named after Claude Wathey, a key figure in St. Maarten’s political history, and serves as a focal point for the town’s cultural and social activities.
Together, Frontstreet 57 and Wathey Square highlight the blend of commercial activity and historical preservation in Philipsburg.
