See little lights dancing in the dark? It is probably from the flashlights of adults and children who come here to catch shrimp in the evenings!

The gear is simple and consists of a single bit of line, which can be custom-made, with a hook and bait at the end. The reel is traditionally hand-held and plunged into the water.

Anthropologist Louis Allaire suggests that artisanal fishing methods, perhaps such as this one, locally taught from generation to generation, could be representative of remaining heritage of an ancient Amerindian culture turned towards the sea.
