Marigot; Lady Liberty, A Work Of Art To Remember

A Work Of Art To Remember

Strategically placed at the heart of the Agrément roundabout, this impressive lady is impossible to miss when driving through the French Side capital.

Sculpted by Bulgarian artist and sculptor Theodor Bonev, the mighty statue represents “ Lady Liberty” and was put up in commemoration of the abolition of slavery in May 1848 on the French Side.

Commissioned in 2007 by the Arts & Culture Department of St. Martin under the aegis of Nicole Pipper, the monument served to honor the 159th anniversary of the abolition of slavery on St. Martin.
