"A symbol of unity, now nature’s own, where borders never mattered."
"Un symbole d'unité, désormais propre à la nature, où les frontières n'ont jamais eu d'importance."
The symbolic border monument is swallowed by nature—vines, animals, and trees embracing it as their own. The monument was never about separation, but rather a marker of unity. The island was always one—two nations, one people, no borders. Nature has now fully claimed what was never divided, reminding us that borders never truly existed, only the spirit of togetherness.
Le monument symbolique de la frontière est englouti par la nature : les vignes, les animaux et les arbres l’adoptent comme les leurs. Le monument n’a jamais été un symbole de séparation, mais plutôt un marqueur d’unité. L’île a toujours été une : deux nations, un seul peuple, sans frontières. La nature a désormais pleinement revendiqué ce qui n’a jamais été divisé, nous rappelant que les frontières n’ont jamais vraiment existé, seulement l’esprit d’unité.

Once a bustling tourist hub, now a desert, the border monument stands as a mirage of a bygone era. Winds sweep across the dunes where travelers once roamed, and memories of paradise flicker in the heat. Time may have shifted the landscape, but the spirit of the island remains etched in the sands.
Autrefois centre touristique animé, aujourd'hui désert, le monument frontalier se présente comme un mirage d'une époque révolue. Les vents balayent les dunes où parcouraient autrefois les voyageurs, et les souvenirs du paradis scintillent dans la chaleur. Le temps a peut-être modifié le paysage, mais l'esprit de l'île reste gravé dans le sable.

Dans un monde où la technologie règne en maître, même les îles les plus calmes embrassent l’avenir. Le bâtiment des télécommunications, autrefois centre de communication, croule désormais sous le poids de l’hyperconnectivité. "It’s that time of year again—where we paint the palm trees and dust off the coconuts."
"C'est à nouveau cette période de l'année où nous peignons les palmiers et dépoussiérons les noix de coco."
Preparation for high season isn’t what it used to be. On SXM, palm trees are primed like storefronts, leaves are painted fresh, and coconuts are hung like decorations. Nature’s beauty, though manufactured, welcomes tourists back each year, offering them a perfected paradise where even the trees get their seasonal glow-up.
La préparation pour la haute saison n’est plus ce qu’elle était. Sur SXM, les palmiers sont décorés comme des vitrines de magasins, les feuilles sont peintes fraîches et les noix de coco sont suspendues comme des décorations. La beauté de la nature, bien que fabriquée, accueille les touristes chaque année, leur offrant un paradis parfait où même les arbres obtiennent leur éclat saisonnier.

Lady Liberty se dressait autrefois sur terre. Aujourd'hui, elle règne sous l'eau en tant que site de plongée le plus emblématique de l'île. À Happy Bay, la plage parfaite des Caraïbes n’est plus seulement naturelle : elle est construite. Les ouvriers assemblent des panneaux qui créent une vue idyllique, pièce par pièce. An ocean of sunbeds and parasols stretches not just across the beaches, but even creeps into the once-serious institutions like the Philipsburg Courthouse. Over-prepared and under-occupied, the island's infrastructure waits for a crowd that never arrives. As sunbeds pile up, it’s a quiet reminder that sometimes, even the most serious places aren’t immune to the island’s overstocked paradise.
Un océan de transats et de parasols s'étend non seulement sur les plages, mais s'infiltre même dans des institutions autrefois sérieuses comme le palais de justice de Philipsburg. Surpréparées et sous-occupées, les infrastructures de l'île attendent une foule qui n'arrive jamais. Alors que les transats s’accumulent, cela nous rappelle que parfois, même les endroits les plus sérieux ne sont pas à l’abri du paradis surpeuplé de l’île.

Les rues d’Almond Grove se sont transformées en rivières, où les touristes font désormais du kayak devant ce qui était autrefois des maisons de luxe. Cette voie navigable surréaliste offre un nouveau type d’aventure, combinant la beauté naturelle de l’île avec une touche inattendue à la vie haut de gamme. What used to be about planes is now all about space shuttles. Crowds still gather at the fence, holding on tight as the force of rocket launches shakes the ground beneath them. At Princess Juliana Space Station, the tradition of clinging to the fence has survived, but now, it’s for an entirely new kind of thrill.
Ce qui était autrefois une affaire d’avions, c’est désormais une affaire de navettes spatiales. Les foules se rassemblent toujours près de la clôture, se tenant fermement tandis que la force des lancements de roquettes fait trembler le sol sous leurs pieds. À la station spatiale Princess Juliana, la tradition de s’accrocher à la clôture a survécu, mais c’est désormais pour un tout nouveau type de sensations fortes.

Maho Beach’s famous low-flying landings have reached new heights—or rather, new atmospheres. Space shuttles skim the sand as they return from orbit. Crowds gather, capturing the breathtaking sight as the massive craft glides just above their heads before touching down. An iconic SXM image.
Les célèbres atterrissages à basse altitude de Maho Beach ont atteint de nouveaux sommets, ou plutôt de nouvelles atmosphères. Les navettes spatiales effleurent le sable à leur retour d'orbite. Les foules se rassemblent, capturant le spectacle à couper le souffle alors que l'énorme engin glisse juste au-dessus de leurs têtes avant d'atterrir. Une image emblématique de SXM.
